Gethrsgethrs

Sound familiar?

«No connection, the app won't open, and I lost what I was typing.»

The train enters a tunnel, the app shows a spinner, and the sentence you had in your head is gone. Or the app needs updating right now, on your phone, before it lets you read a line. Notes should be the thing that always works.

What happens today

  • Without a connection the app opens empty, or does not open at all.
  • A save that failed in a tunnel is a note back to how it was before.
  • One app per device, each with its own update, each with its own version.
  • On the office computer you cannot install anything, so your notes are not there.

How gethrs solves it

01

What you have seen reopens offline

The app keeps a local copy of your notes in the browser. Without a connection you reopen and read what you had already opened, and you write: changes go into a queue and leave by themselves as soon as the network is back.

02

Saving is automatic

One second after your last keystroke the note is saved. There is no “Save” button, because in a notes app it is a way to lose work. And every save stays in the history: reopen a note as it was yesterday.

03

No app to install

It is a website: it opens in any browser, even on a computer where you cannot install anything. If you want it as an app, it installs from the browser tab, without a store, and receives reminders from there.

04

One version, always the latest

There are no updates to download: open it, and it is the latest version. The same on every device.

In practice

  1. Open the notes you need for the trip while you still have a connection.
  2. Turn the connection off: reopen and read them. Write something.
  3. Turn it back on: what you wrote is saved, without doing anything.

Questions

Can I write a new note offline?
Yes: it is born locally and leaves as soon as the network is back. If in the meantime the same note was changed from another device, the changes merge, they don't overwrite.
Can I see attachments offline?
What you already opened stays cached and reopens. An attachment you never downloaded waits for the connection.
Does it work on the phone?
The app is designed for a wide screen; from the phone it installs and you read notes and tasks, but the full editor is for the computer. We say it before, not after.

A notebook. Some notes.
