Gethrsgethrs

Sound familiar?

«Evernote keeps costing more, and my notes are stuck in there.»

The price goes up at every renewal, the free plan shrinks, devices are counted. And ten years of notes sit in a place that seems as hard to leave as a house. It isn't: it's a file.

What happens today

  • Every renewal costs more than the last one, and you find out from your bank statement.
  • The free plan that used to be enough now caps notes and devices.
  • Almost every new feature is artificial intelligence you never asked for.
  • Your notes are in their format: taking them away looks harder than staying.

How gethrs solves it

01

One file brings everything

Export an .enex file from Evernote (gigabytes are fine: it is read in slices in the browser), import it from Settings → Import. Notes, notebooks, tags, attachments and images all come along, and checklists stay checklists.

02

The structure you already know

Notebooks, notes, tags, and spaces above the notebooks. Three columns: where you are, what is there, what you write. Coming from Evernote, there is nothing new to learn.

03

No device count

It is a website. It opens in any browser, on the laptop, on the office computer, on the phone; it installs as an app without going through a store. There is no number to stay under.

04

You know the price beforehand

During the beta it costs nothing. Afterwards the plans will be written plainly on the home page, and beta members will know them before anyone else. Nothing goes up by itself at renewal.

In practice

  1. In Evernote, select a notebook and choose “Export”: you get one .enex file per notebook.
  2. In gethrs open Settings → Import and drop the files in, all at once if you like.
  3. Check a note with attachments and one with a checklist: they are there, as you left them.

Questions

Do Evernote checklists become tasks?
Yes. A line with a checkbox stays a checkbox in the note and also shows up in the Tasks area, where you can give it a due date, a reminder and a priority.
What about Evernote's tag hierarchy?
Tags arrive as tags, each with a colour you can change. There is no tag hierarchy here: there are spaces, which group notebooks.
What if it isn't for me?
“Export everything” downloads one file with notes, attachments and structure, in a readable format. Coming in does not close the door behind you.

A notebook. Some notes.
